Principal Occupational Therapist
Job Responsibilities
- Provide advanced occupational therapy assessment, treatment planning, and management of complex rehabilitation cases to maximize patients’ functional independence and quality of life.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support patient care, discharge planning, and continuity of care while maintaining accurate clinical documentation.
- Supervise, mentor, develop, and appraise Occupational Therapists, Therapy Aides, students, and junior staff to ensure high standards of clinical practice.
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of occupational therapy programmes, specialized services, and evidence-based clinical practices.
- Drive quality improvement, patient safety, research, and clinical governance initiatives to enhance service quality and patient outcomes.
- Support workforce planning, manpower allocation, recruitment, staff development, and operational excellence within the department.
- Assist in strategic planning, service development, policy review, implementation of new initiatives, and achievement of departmental and organizational KPIs.
- Build effective partnerships with patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, community partners, and external stakeholders.
- Assume clinical and operational leadership portfolios as assigned and contribute actively to departmental and organizational committees, meetings, and projects.
- Ensure compliance with AHPC standards, organizational policies, infection prevention and control requirements, workplace safety standards, and mandatory training requirements.
- Identify, assess, report, and mitigate potential risks within the scope of practice, actively supporting the organization's risk management framework and maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and stakeholders.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the Head of Rehabilitation, Clinical Director, or hospital management.
Job Requirements
- Degree in Occupational Therapy recognized by AHPC/MOH and registered with AHPC with a valid practising certificate.
- Postgraduate qualification or advanced clinical certification will be an advantage.
- At least 2-3 years of experience as a Senior Occupational Therapist, preferably in rehabilitation or healthcare settings.
- Proven experience in managing complex cases, staff supervision, mentorship, and service development.
- Strong leadership, communication, multidisciplinary collaboration, and clinical reasoning skills.
- Experience in quality improvement, research, and clinical education is preferred.
- Membership with the Singapore Association of Occupational Therapists (SAOT) is an advantage.
