Physiotherapist (Community Hospital)
Job Responsibilities
CLINICAL
Physiotherapy Assessment includes
- The examination of patients to evaluate functional ability in terms of mobility, transfers, and ambulation.
- The identification of potential impairments, movement, and functional limitations.
- The planning of appropriate goals, treatment plan and timeframe.
- Implementation of treatment plan. Re-evaluate and modify treatment as required.
Physiotherapy intervention is planned based on patient’s condition and may include
- Manual therapy techniques including manual therapy and airway clearance techniques.
- Physical, electro-therapeutic and mechanical agents such as ultrasound, mechanical traction, electrical stimulation, short wave diathermy, hydrocollators, wax therapy, cryotherapy, biofeedback, and compression pump therapy.
- Functional training such as prescription of specific therapeutic exercises through use of exercise equipment, muscle re-education, gait training, balance training and postural training.
- Provision of walking aids and assistive devices as indicated.
- Patient education and professional communication with patient, caregivers, medical practitioners, and other allied healthcare workers.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records.
Works as part of multi-disciplinary team in RCH. This will include attending regular team meetings, participate in discharge planning meeting in consultation with the patient, their family, ward staff and other outside agencies. Communicate as required with other members of the team.
PROFESSIONAL
- To practice Physiotherapy in a safe, ethical, and legal manner. Practice should reflect consideration of socio-cultural values of the patient, family, and significant others.
- To maintain absolute confidentiality in matters pertaining to the organization, department, and patients. Confidentiality of the patients’ records is to be always maintained for the privacy of the patients.
- To take responsibility for own professional learning and growth.
- To participate in department meetings, in-service trainings.
- To work with the volunteers within the organization if needed.
- To liaise with external services, statutory bodies, and other Voluntary Welfare Organisations as appropriate.
- To supervise therapy aide students on placement.
- To supervise Physiotherapy students on placement.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
- To update patients’ statistics daily.
- To participate actively in the implementation of organizational and departmental policies, to review policies and protocols when necessary.
- To take responsibility for the maintenance and replacement of physiotherapy equipment in the department.
- To carry out other tasks or projects assigned by the Head, Physiotherapy services / Senior Physiotherapist / Head of Department.
- To plan and provide coverage when necessary.
- To take up leadership services such as Outpatient services in-charge, Therapy Aides in-charge, Nursing home rehab in-charge.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
- To know and implement the Health and Safety regulations in RCH. To always work safely and to participate actively in health and safety programs.
- To attend courses on CPR, Manual Handling and Fire Safety as required by the organization and professional bodies.
- To read and understand the contents of the Infection Control Manual.
- To take initiative and identify, report, and resolve issues that may cause harm/ injuries to people in the organization. To report all incidents or potential hazards to the reporting officer.
Job Requirements
- Degree in Physiotherapy (recognized by AHPC).
- Post-graduate qualification or certification in treatment techniques is an advantage.
- Registered with the Singapore AHPC with valid practicing certificate.
- Highly encourage to be a member of the Singapore Physiotherapy Association.
- Highly encouraged to be a member of the Singapore Physiotherapy Association.
- At least 3 - 5 years of working experience in the relevant field.
- Experience in a geriatric community hospital, long term care or nursing home setting will be an advantage.
- Mature and good team player.
- Able to serve those patients and residents in need, regardless of race, nationality, religious or social status.
- Compassionate and able to relate well to patients and residents of RCH.
- Caring, understanding, patient and empathetic.
- Able to cooperate with all colleagues towards the total healthcare of the community.
- Able to motivate and develop staff.
- Able to coordinate daily operations within the department.
- Able to promote a collegial work environment and encourage effective teamwork.
- The Physiotherapist post is a rotational post within the various settings in Ren Ci Hospital (RCH), namely Community Hospital (CH), Nursing Home (NH), and Senior Care Centre (SCC).
