Music Therapist
Job Responsibilities
BROAD FUNCTIONS
- Functions as a Music Therapist to provide person-centered therapeutic strategies and music therapy services in the management of patient care that meets standard of practice. Uses patient-preferred music to cater to their needs.
- Being part of the Psychosocial Services Department, to collaborate and work closely with the team as well as professionals from other disciplines.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
- Assess suitability of clients referred for music therapy, and design, implement, manage and evaluate individualized care plans to meet his/her therapeutic needs.
- Identify and prioritize therapeutic goals in collaboration with the client/family/caregiver and multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness in developing the music therapy programme and meeting the needs of the clients.
- Facilitate individual and group interventions for clients and caregivers by employing clinically safe and evidence-based practice.
- Complete case notes and other documentation, following professional and organizational guidelines.
- Attend multidisciplinary meetings and engage in sharing of cases.
- Uphold standards of best practice by staying up to date and complying with relevant legislation, organization procedures, policies and professional codes of conduct.
- Ensure a culturally informed practice in working with individuals and groups.
- Adhere to the health and safety policies of the organization.
- Ensure all music works are dated, labelled or titled, and kept secured and confidential in an organized manner.
- Maintain a critical awareness, curiosity and desire to learn about new developments in the field.
- Engage in regular clinical supervision to facilitate in-depth reflection, understanding and ethical issues in clinical work.
- Engage in continual learning by participating in relevant on-site and off-site trainings and courses.
Job Requirements
Academic Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree / Post graduate certificate / Masters
Professional Qualification
- Min. Bachelor / Master Degree in Music Therapy from local or overseas educational institutions.
Professional Registration/Licensure
- Registration with the professional body for music therapist or active participation in the Association for Music Therapy Singapore (AMTS).
EXPERIENCE
- Relevant knowledge and experience in working with older adults of various circumstances of at least 5 years.
- Has relevant post-graduate specialized training in medical music therapy, e.g. Neurologic Music Therapy, Hospice-Palliative Care MT, etc.
SKILLS
- Abides by the Association for Music Therapy (Singapore) Code of Ethics and Standard of Practice.
- Demonstrates proficient musicianship and can accompany voice appropriately with suitable culturally and age-appropriate repertoire.
- Demonstrates competency or openness in integrating local music history and cultural contexts in therapy, including the use of recorded or live music for major languages and select dialect groups will be desirable.
- Demonstrates use variety of music therapy methods and techniques.
- Experience in facilitating group and individual music therapy sessions.
- Demonstrates specialist clinical skill expertise in the areas of assessment and management of music therapy clients and the ability to undertake professional supervision and promote professional competence of music therapy staff.
- Demonstrates quality improvement skills including planning, process improvement, data analysis and project management.
- Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team framework.
- Experience in training and education.
- High level communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Commitment to ongoing education and self-directed learning.
- Self-awareness and ability to use self in facilitating change.
- Demonstrates functional music skills in voice, keyboard, guitar. Not limiting to only these 3 musical skills.
